Thuti Coffee Factory is located in Nyeri County, Central Kenya. It is a relatively small processing station, with only 380 active members. It sits within the Thuti district at the foot of the Karima forest reserve, just northeast of Othaya Town. Thuti was founded in 1958, prior to Kenya’s independence from Great Britain. Nyeri is perhaps the best-known of the coffee producing central counties surrounding Mt. Kenya. Along the lower edge of the forests bordering the mountain, in wet & high elevation communities, mineral-rich soils help to produce what many believe to be the best coffees in Kenya.

SL varieties are among the most well sought-after owing to their bright acidity and potential for sweet & fruity cup profiles. Batian & Ruiru 11 are hybrid cultivars having been crossed with Hibrido de Timor to improve crop resilience & overall yields at farm level.

Cherries are pulped, then fermented for 18-24 hours before being washed in the washing channels. They are then sun dried on tables for 10-20 days. Dry parchment is then taken to the dry mill for hulling and grading after which it is taken to a secure warehouse.
